NEW YORK, NY (August 27, 2026) — They’re getting bigger. So are their shows.
For more than 25 years, Vital Theatre Company has created live musicals for young audiences. This Halloween, Vital Theatre Company presents KID FRANKENSTEIN, THE MUSICAL, a funny, spooky musical created for kids ages 7+ who are ready for something bigger.
Frankie Steiner is a boy genius with a Halloween problem. His science project is alive, and it isn’t listening.
It’s Halloween, and something strange is happening at Frankie’s house. He loves science, robotics and old monster movies, so when the school robotics competition comes around, he decides to build something extraordinary. It works. Maybe a little too well.
What starts as a science project turns into a funny, spooky adventure filled with mad science, monsters, friendship, family, and one very big experiment Frankie may not be able to control.
KID FRANKENSTEIN is a Halloween musical for kids who have graduated from little-kid shows but aren’t ready for grown-up horror. It gives them something of their own. A real story with bigger laughs, bigger feelings, a little suspense and a Monster.
“Kid Frankenstein came out of a simple question: what do we make for the child who has outgrown the shows they loved at four or five?” said Stephen Sunderlin, Producing Artistic Director of Vital Theatre Company. “They’re ready for a bigger story, a little suspense and something that feels like it belongs to them. That’s what this show is meant to be.”
Not for scaredy cats.
KID FRANKENSTEIN, THE MUSICAL features Book and Lyrics by Peter Charles Morris and Music by David Mallamud. The musical was originally commissioned and produced by Vital Theatre Company.
Performances are Sundays, October 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 1:30 PM at Actors Temple Theatre, 339 West 47th Street in New York City. The performance runs 55 minutes with no intermission and is recommended for ages 7+.
VITAL THEATRE COMPANY was founded in New York City in 1999 and has presented more than 100 original productions for young audiences and their families. The company has been honored with the 2012 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Show and American Theatre Wing Awards for Continued Commitment to Excellence in Theatre in 2006 and 2007.
