NEW YORK, NY (August 27, 2026) — Penguin has the soul of an eagle and one enormous dream. To live on the wind. There’s just one problem. Penguins can’t fly.
It’s the first day of Flight School, where they teach birds to fly. Penguin arrives determined to soar, even when everyone reminds him that he simply wasn’t built for it.
But Penguin’s spirit won’t be grounded. With determination, friends of a feather, and a little help with the technical parts, Penguin discovers that sometimes the biggest dreams need more than wings.
PENGUIN GOES TO FLIGHT SCHOOL is a funny, uplifting live musical for children ages 2–7 about a little penguin with a very big dream and the friends who help him get it off the ground.
Based on the children’s picture book FLIGHT SCHOOL, written and illustrated by Lita Judge, the musical features a book by Cara Lustik, music by David Mallamud and lyrics by Joshua H. Cohen.
An earlier New York production, then titled FLIGHT SCHOOL THE MUSICAL, was praised by The New York Times as “a charming adaptation.” Critic Laurel Graeber called David Mallamud’s score “music worthy of bigger stages” and the production “simple and straightforward enough to be understood by a 3-year-old, but engaging enough to amuse a parent.”
The 2026 New York production is directed by Kyle Jack.
Performances are Sundays, September 27 and October 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 11:00 AM at Actors Temple Theatre, 339 West 47th Street in New York City. The performance runs 55 minutes with no intermission and is recommended for children ages 2–7.
Tickets are $29.50–$69.50.
